About This Spot

Stepping into Ample Hills Creamery on Vanderbilt Avenue feels like sliding into a familiar storybook of Brooklyn sweetness. It’s a welcoming nook where the hustle outside softens, giving way to a slower, more unhurried rhythm — the kind that invites you to pause, savor, and maybe even get a little playful with your choices.

The atmosphere here leans charmingly casual, a neighborhood spot where smiles are easy, and the anticipation of the next scoop feels almost like a shared secret. The space buzzes gently with the hum of eager chatter mixed with the clink of waffle cones and the quiet happiness of satisfied first bites.

Ample Hills is more than a typical ice cream shop — it’s a place where creativity and comfort mingle. Familiar favorites like deeply rich dark chocolate and softly nostalgic flavors like ooey gooey butter cake appear alongside thoughtful surprises such as cotton candy tinted with natural spirulina or a luscious, almost tropical mango. There’s a delightful sense of care here; each bite carries a balance of texture and flavor that feels thoughtfully crafted rather than rushed.

Visitors tend to linger, sampling flights that invite discovery and sharing moments with friends or family. Staff members add a warm human touch, making you feel like more than just a customer — their generous spirit gently turns a quick outing into a small, memorable occasion. Whether you’re embracing a childhood favorite or tackling something new, the spirit here is one of simple joy, thoughtfully curated indulgence, and connection.

Ample Hills captures a nuanced slice of Brooklyn’s vibrant food scene — lively yet intimate, inventive yet grounded, and always welcoming without fuss. It’s one of those rare places where the experience of ice cream becomes a subtle celebration of place and community.

This is what it’s all about: an ice cream store with a vision, a mission, a way of being in the world. The ownership changes over time are sad, but its legacy remains strong: wildly delicious flavors that please the mind, the body, and the soul. I always get peppermint patty these days, because it’s so tasty, but I’ve had perhaps a dozen flavors over the years and have never been disappointed. The cherry on top? It’s named for a Walt Whitman line.

Have been meaning to write this review for a minute but, I absolutely love Ample Hills and specifically this location. Major shoutout to Isaiah and Terrione who are a breath of fresh air with wonderful, generous spirits. I am deeply grateful to both of them for making my week when I got some absolutely awful news. Come here, it's wonderful! The ooey gooey butter cake and the strawberries and cream is my favorite balance of tart and sweet. Lord knows, even though it's freezing at the moment, I will be returning very soon.

Delicious ice cream. Not as creamy as I’ve had at other places but still as equally delectable. The dark chocolate is so dense and fulfilling, the king of mangoes it irresistibly lucious like I’m literally scooping a frozen mango, and the oatmeal lace is seriously amazing.

such a cute little place with a great flavor selection!! I loved the butter pecan pie flavor, but there’s lots of unique options

Great ice cream with tons of options (24 with 3 vegan), many with mix-ins. Wonderful texture (slightly stretchy), perfect sweetness and robust flavors. Prices are decent ($7 for 2 scoops), with flight being the best deal (6 smaller scoops for $8). They allow sampling. Our favorites were the cotton candy (spirulina so natural color), ooey gooey butter cake and guava. All of them were pretty good.

love ample hills, the ice cream is so good! had some great customer service today and the most delicious ice cream (as always, post gooey butter cake & salty kisses and caramel wishes) i heard the salted caramel is temporary? please keep it! also noticed that the ice cream freezer may need to be a bit colder? regardless, love this place and will keep coming back again and again and again

Honestly these ice cream flavors are the most genuine tasting ice creams I’ve Ever eaten! The PBJ it’s like the sandwich rolled up in an ice cream ball! The banana pudding was to die for! The captain my captain was literally captain crunch with ice cream perfectly infused! We got the flight and tasted 6 flavors all Of them were great! Will be coming back quite often!!!
